How to increase CPS, and what actually changes it

How to increase cps without hiding mistakes: use equal-duration runs, rest between attempts and check unintended inputs separately. Start with the cps test, review all browser hardware tests, and check what stays private. No fixed score gain is promised.

Fix your test before you train

How to increase cps starts with repeatable input, not a promised target. Choose one clicking method and a fixed duration in the cps test, then record total inputs, final CPS and unintended clicks.

Clicks per second, also written clicks per second in explanatory text, describes the counted browser events divided by elapsed time. A higher short burst may come from start timing rather than sustained control. Compare runs of equal length. Do your totals stay similar after a rest, or does only one peak change?

Set a stopping rule before practice. Stop when the movement causes pain, numbness or persistent discomfort. This guide cannot assess injury or prescribe a safe training volume.

Run a CPS baseline

  1. Select left click and a duration you can repeat without rushing the setup. Complete three separated runs with the same mouse, grip and browser window. Record final CPS, total inputs and consistency.

  2. Check accuracy with the double click test. One physical press appearing twice can inflate speed without improving control. Do not train around an unintended duplicate.

  3. Use the same surface and connection. Rest between runs. Jitter clicking, jitter practice, Butterfly clicking and butterfly technique change the movement pattern. Drag clicking, also written drag clicking in search descriptions, is another separate method. Test only one method at a time.

What is a good CPS?

A useful improvement is repeatable across equal-duration runs and does not add unintended inputs. Compare the middle pattern of several attempts rather than choosing the highest number.

Peak CPS describes the busiest quarter-second bucket. Final CPS uses the full elapsed run. Which one changed? A larger peak with an unchanged total is a pacing change, not proof of sustained improvement.

There is no verified universal average or guaranteed path from one CPS value to another. Your baseline is the controlled set you can repeat on the same task.

What a CPS score cannot tell you

The browser counts selected input events. It cannot judge finger technique, muscle load, switch travel or whether a game accepts the same events.

No debounce is applied in the speed test. Rapid intentional clicks and unintended duplicates both enter the total, which is why a separate accuracy check matters.

A score does not establish game performance or server rules. Use the original application for that task, and treat the browser result as a local timing comparison only.

How to keep improving CPS

Keep a method only when equal-duration totals become more repeatable without more unintended inputs. Change one variable, such as finger position or run length, then collect another small set.

If speed rises only in one-second bursts, use a longer run to test pacing. If duplicates appear during normal clicks, pause speed practice and investigate the device separately.

Stop the session when control falls or discomfort begins. Resume only under conditions you can repeat; this page does not provide a fixed improvement schedule or medical advice.

Jitter clicking

Jitter clicking uses one finger on one mouse button, with a small vibrating movement that repeatedly presses and releases it. Keep the finger over the button rather than moving between buttons. Do not force the button down harder to try to create more inputs.

Use jitter practice to compare a vibrating movement with your ordinary one-finger clicks. Keep the same button, mouse and duration, and record whether you can keep the pointer on the target. A higher event count with lost pointer control may not help a task that also needs accurate aiming.

The browser counts presses it receives; it cannot verify that your finger used a jitter movement or measure muscle load. Compare complete runs rather than one peak bucket. Stop if the pointer becomes difficult to control or you feel pain, numbness or discomfort. Do not keep practising through those symptoms.

Butterfly clicking

Butterfly clicking alternates two fingers on the same mouse button. Place both fingers where each can press and release that button, then alternate them rather than pressing together. This butterfly technique changes the input sequence; using two different buttons is a different test.

Use a butterfly run when you want to compare alternating fingers with a one-finger baseline on the same target. Start at a pace where you can distinguish each intended press. Keep the mode and duration fixed, and note missed turns, simultaneous presses or difficulty keeping the pointer in place.

The CPS count cannot identify which finger produced an event or distinguish an intended alternating press from an unintended duplicate. If ordinary single presses also produce extra events, check them separately with the double click test. Stop when the alternation loses control or causes pain, numbness or discomfort; pressing harder is not a correction.

Drag clicking

Drag clicking moves a finger along the mouse button surface so friction can produce repeated press-and-release inputs during one stroke. The movement follows the button rather than alternating fingers or making separate deliberate taps. Do not apply extra downward force to make a stroke register.

Use a drag run to observe whether a repeatable stroke produces browser inputs on your particular mouse. Keep the button, stroke direction and test duration unchanged, and record the total across the full run, including gaps between strokes. Surface and switch behaviour can affect the result; this guide does not establish which models support the technique.

A high drag-clicking total does not reveal switch wear, remaining lifespan or how another application handles the inputs. Check the product instructions for intended use and the actual application's input requirements. Stop if you need to force the button, lose control, notice changed ordinary-click behaviour or feel pain, numbness or discomfort.

Common questions

What is a good CPS score?

This page has no verified universal good CPS threshold. Compare your own complete runs using the same input mode, technique and duration, and check whether the total repeats without unintended inputs. For a particular task, use the actual application's requirements rather than treating one peak score as a rank.

Does an expensive gaming mouse increase CPS?

Price alone does not establish that a mouse will increase your CPS. Button fit, surface and switch behaviour can change how a technique feels or registers, but this page cannot predict a gain from a purchase. Check the model's product instructions and compare equal-duration runs with the same technique before attributing a change to the mouse.

Is drag clicking bad for a mouse?

This page cannot determine whether drag clicking will damage your mouse or shorten its lifespan. Browser event counts do not measure switch wear or remaining life. Check the manufacturer's product instructions for intended use; do not force the button. Stop if ordinary-click behaviour changes, and investigate it separately rather than assuming a high CPS proves the mouse is working normally.

Which clicking technique is fastest?

This page cannot establish a universal fastest technique. Ordinary, jitter, butterfly and drag clicking use different movements, and results depend on the person, mouse, duration and counted inputs. Compare complete runs under the same conditions, track control and unintended events, and check the actual application's input requirements before choosing a method.

How long does it take to raise CPS?

This page cannot give a fixed improvement timeline or guarantee a CPS increase. Compare separated sessions with the same method, device and duration after resting. Look for repeatable totals without extra unintended inputs rather than one personal best. Stop when control declines or pain, numbness or discomfort begins; a target date is not a reason to continue through symptoms.
