Check output selection, mute and balance. Replay the same position and confirm only what you hear; silence is not enough to locate a failed speaker.
Speaker test
Play front left and front right separately, then confirm what you heard. This speaker test covers stereo positions only.
Also known as: speaker test, test speakers, speaker tester, left right speaker test. Free, online, and no download required.
Select a speaker position and press play.
What the speaker test checks
| Check | How it is measured | Fails when |
|---|---|---|
| Position route | One merger input receives an oscillator while all other gains remain at zero. | The confirmed physical position differs from the selected route. |
| Playback state | AudioContext state is read before and after each sequence. | The context cannot resume from a user action. |
| Confirmation count | Each position is counted only after an explicit confirmation. | A required position cannot be confirmed. |
How to run the speaker test
- Choose the system output and set a moderate volume. Play Front left and note the physical position that sounds.
- Play Front right and confirm each position only after you hear it. A generated tone alone is not a speaker result.
- If positions are silent, swapped or merged, check balance and mono settings, then repeat with one changed connection.
If something failed
Check mono audio and spatial processing, then repeat isolated left and right tones. The operating system or receiver may duplicate channels after this page sends stereo.
Replay the same position with the tab visible. If the sequence stops again, compare another application or output route before assigning a hardware cause.
How to read the result
How the speaker test works
The speaker test sends local tones to front left or front right. The page knows the requested stereo path and playback state; it cannot know which cabinet sounded in your room.
Did the selected side sound? Use the confirmation control only after listening. A count of confirmed positions records your observations, not an automatic acoustic measurement.
The browser creates an oscillator after a button press and routes it through gain nodes. Speaker test uses this local signal. Keep the same output, volume and processing while comparing sides.
What the result can establish
If front left and front right sound from their expected positions, the current stereo path matches your observation. The sound test adds a left-to-right sequence and general output checks.
One silent side may be a balance setting, cable, inactive output or speaker. Check each in order. Does a cable or output change move the symptom? Record that difference before deciding what to service.
Two positions sounding together can reflect mono audio or downstream mixing. The speaker tester cannot certify independent centre, rear or subwoofer channels.
Write down the selected position and the physical side that played, not just a pass label. Then repeat the same position with the system output unchanged. If the result changes after choosing a different output device, the comparison points to the route that changed. If it stays silent on two routes, continue with the device maker's checks instead of assuming the browser identified a failed driver.
Measurement limits
This is a stereo speaker test. It sends front left and front right only; it does not produce an independent 5.1 or 7.1 channel check.
A confirmation is manual. The browser does not use a microphone to detect which physical speaker played, and a playback request alone cannot verify the room output.
If the expected side differs from what you hear, compare mono settings, balance, cabling and the receiver route. Change one variable per run.
Speaker test questions
How do I test speakers one side at a time?
Play Front left and Front right separately at a moderate level. Confirm each position only when you hear it. The page sends stereo channels but cannot listen to the speakers.
Why does this left right speaker test ask me to confirm?
The left right speaker test asks you to confirm because the browser knows what it sent, not where the sound emerged. A confirmation records your hearing; it is not an automatic acoustic check.
Can this speaker tester check a subwoofer or centre channel?
No. The speaker tester exposes stereo front left and front right. Use your system or receiver's speaker setup for centre, rear and subwoofer positions.
How do I test headphones instead of speakers?
For headphones, use the sound test to compare left, right and the sequence. Check headset orientation, output selection and mono settings if both sides sound alike.
How should I repeat the speaker test fairly?
Keep device, connection, volume and processing unchanged. Replay the same positions in the same order, then compare one changed setting in a new speaker test.
What can the speaker test not prove?
The speaker test cannot hear the room, inspect wiring or certify surround channels. It records the stereo signal requested and the positions you confirm.
